Poor decision-making and misplaced priorities by our elected officials have put the trajectory of the city we love in danger. The violent and destructive protests last summer. The calls to reallocate police funds, create $100 million for reparations, and promote Critical Race Theory in our schools, raise taxes and, council members voted to raise their salaries 15%. The madness must stop. Common sense must be restored.
Prioritizing political and personal agendas has been the record of current Council Member Carol Jackson. Carol has not only voted to raise taxes, she recently voted to increase her own salary 15%. As part of the City's Special Commission on Equity, Inclusion, and Racial Conciliation, Carol helped author and voted to advance the Commission's Report that calls for reallocating police funds, spending $100 million on reparations, and teach Critical Race Theory in our schools. Not only are these priorities out of touch with James Island residents, they are harmful to our future.
I believe public safety should be a top priority for any elected official. That is why I signed the Police Pledge, committing to oppose any resolution or movement to defund the police. Also, I have pledged to oppose any increase to elected officials’ salaries until city employees – particularly our emergency personnel and basic public service providers (ie sanitation, storm water maintenance etc)– are properly compensated for their true sacrifices they make each and every day to serve and protect us. These folks have not had a day off or the ability to choose a zoom meeting during these unprecedented times but they have continued to show up!
My priority will always be getting results for James Island, be it for infrastructure improvements to mitigate flooding and ease traffic congestion or making necessary investments to enhance the James Island Recreation Center.
Caroline will always prioritize problem-solving for James Island. Whether it’s infrastructure improvements to mitigate flooding and ease traffic congestion, updating our current bus stop areas along Folly Rd or making necessary investments to enhance the James Island Recreation Center – Caroline is committed to getting results for James Island. I want to hear from all constituents and will plan on providing opportunities to check in and touch base, whether it be with polls online or 'Coffee with Caroline' once a month!

Caroline knows that providing core government services is the main objective on local government as well as providing transparency on spending within our city budget. That is why she is committed to ensuring core services and the public servants who provide them are taken care of. Caroline has pledged to oppose any increase to elected officials’ salaries until city employees – particularly our emergency personnel – are properly compensated for the true sacrifices they make to serve and protect us.
